Description
I. Introduction Many researchers claim that dance may be the oldest type of art that mankind has known (Wright 1-9). All over the world and throughout history dancing was not only a means of expression but also a means of adoration. Seeking help to endure the human condition and enhance stamina, diverse cultures used dancing as a means of invoking the supreme forces. There are many examples of the positive effect of dance in a religious context. Even in prehistoric times dance was used because of its discerning ability to provoke spiritual uplift. Many frescoes found in ancient caves give evidence of the use of dance as a way of reaching elevation during shamanic healing rites (Bourcier 34).
